True, but it's still perverse and disgusting. And I say this as a complete teetotal who's never touched an illegal drug in his life.
The US approach to the drug war is bad enough, and I'm opposed to capital punishment on principle, but nobody can argue that capital punishment for non-capital crimes is anything resembling reasonable or enlightened lawmaking. It's authoritarian prosecutors pandering to the bloodthirsty instincts of the populace, a modern version of the bloodsports of the Roman Empire.
Singapore's draconian laws (even though the only one that has any chance of affecting me personally is the ban on gum) on a number of points are the main reason I have no interest in visiting the place in the near future. I suppose that your point knocks the rest of Southeast Asia down on my list as well.
