As an English teacher, I've often wondered just when such services will be available to me in my educational role.

I'm happy to say that my dreams have been given form...

This is actually the most important thread on this forum. If you have a computer and are using it internationally, you must change your transformer oil. The transformer oil in your laptop power brick is designed for either 110 or 220. If you change your voltage often, your transformer oil gets all icky and not properly dissipate the heat that builds up.

While the OP is suggesting that we filter the oil, I've found that this is impractical for the small laptop power bricks. It's better just to visit your local computer store and buy a small bottle of transformer oil and change it yourself. Yes, I'm a DIY, but you can probably pay a few dollars and have the shop do it for you.

The going reccomendation is to change your transformer oil every year or 12,000 miles of travel.

If a shop doesn't want to sell you transformer oil then run, don't walk, away from that shop. They are just trying to get you to pay for an expensive laptop repair.

Be vigilant and change that transformer oil!!!
