This question might strike you as bit strange, but I was wondering how easy (or difficult) it would be for a Vietnamese citizen who has a degree in Japanese and speaks fluent Japanese to find work in Japan. Is there any need for Vietnamese teachers or perhaps a Vietnamese/Japanese translator? She also speaks an advanced level of English. Not fluent but very close.

Not sure how easy it is but Vietnamese do come to Japan to work or study.
I learn Japanese at a church, and many Vietnamese study there.

For teaching Vietnamese at the university level, a MA would be required.

Ah thanks, I didn't think there'd be much information about this. I suppose I'll keep looking.

If she's fluent in Japanese and close to fluent in English, perhaps Japanese-English translation work might be an easier route.

I don`t think teaching pays well. I would say work for a Japanese company in Vietnam doing translation or interpreting is the way to go.

I wonder if medical interpreting might fit the bill? I got a circular last year about some activities related to Vietnamese medical interpreters in Kobe. I didnt keep the originals but I found a couple of links on the internet to these activities (the first is about a talk by an interpreter called Duong Ngoc Diep and the second is anewspaper article). Maybe they will suggest an avenue worth following.

My view from Southern Kyushu is pretty provincial, but there do seem to be quite a few Vietnamese people involved in health and care occupations here, so with increasing visitors from Vietnam, it might suggest that medical interpretation is one way to go, especially for someone with a three-language combination including English.
In case, you havent already come across these, here are two links for national translation/interpreting organisations that could be worth staring your search with.

Good luck anyway!

Thank you very much for the information! It seems interpreting/translating might a real option.
