Anything else not exactly accurate that we should know about? |
No, all present and correct.

No, it's not illegal, but you would only be able to stay here a limited time as a tourist. |
Are you certain about this Mr. Glenski? |

Come come, Mr. Glenski.
The "lessons for room" deal.
My Japanese friend said steer clear. When I mentioned immigration, the guy himself went cold. Perhaps it was my impertinence. Or is it dodgy? |

Yes; he's correct. You can stay 90 days as a tourist. In order to be sponsored for a work visa the sponsor must submit paperwork indicating, among other things, your salary. Immigration is unlikely to give work visas to people who won't be paying taxes. They'll think it is just as dodgy as it seems to be.
Glenski; I , for one, still use "gig" from time to time. . . |

People come on internship visas and can only be paid room and board. Roughly the same thing as you.
And, please STOP with the condescending wording, ok? My question was legit simply because YOUR wording was unclear.
Your J friend went cold simply because he has no clue about it. Now, if your friend happens to know the guy who wants to help you out, and knows something shady there, that's different.
Personally, I'd follow Pitarou's advice, but to get here ASAP may not be wise. You've practically waited, hemmed, and hawed too long. |

I get a slightly dodgy vibe about it but he has been up and running for a while and I just wonder, if it is dodgy, how he could have avoided falling foul of the authorities? Maybe someone with some J insight could illuminate proceedings. I'm in the dark.

That is very good to know. Excellent advice, thank you.

No we have cross wires. I had my J friend look over the owner's (J national) website. I don't believe my J friend is an expert on immigration law but I think he has more common sense than I do. It was the owner who went cold ... I was about to be hired but when I asked him for clarification with regard to immigration law and my position he didn't respond directly and said he'd get back to me next week.
The job would be good as it would save me J rent and get me into the swing of teaching J adults. However, the last thing I'd want to do is fall foul of the authorities.

No, he doesn't know him. My J friend lives in Sendai.

I had my reasons but I will bite the bullet and fly, like a bird.
I'll take any legit job when it comes down to it. ALT would be the best fit though.

Oh my goodness.
I guess this is why they had to have a patently inferior US remake of The Office.

I simply seek to inject a little mirth in an otherwise sterile landscape.
No offence was intended.
I realise the wording of my query was ambiguous. That only adds to the hilarity, does it not? No?
Maybe I'll go back to Space Invaders. |

Jerkyboy, wit for wit. Here is a ukulele song I wrote and played on Youtube about the ups and downs of life in Japan. Take it as an instructive video, so please take notes:
