Yeah. However, there is a teacher here (China) who is a citizen of Denmark. She grew up in England, but she has a Danish passport. And she's legal.

Both Ireland and South Africa are sometimes considered to be an anglophone country and sometimes not depending on the country you are applying to.

Where in the world is IRELAND not considered an Anglophone country??
I have never known a teacher with an Irish passport to be perceived as a non-native speaker of the language.

I've wondered about that myself. Northern Ireland is considered part of the UK, but the rest of it......

EDIT: I just looked it up and the official language of the Republic of Ireland is Irish; maybe that makes it "iffy", kinda like South Africa.

As opposed to Welsh in Wales? French in Canada? Or the US, which doesn't have any official language? Or, lord helps us, Malta?

In any case, I think there are two official languages in Ireland.

I think it has more to do with the way the rest of the world perceives a given country. I think all people from the US should be able to speak the native language. Apache.

This from Wikipedia about the Republic of Ireland:

Irish is the "national language" according to the Constitution, but English is the dominant language

Malta's constitutionally prescribed language is Maltese. Another "iffy" one.

No, I must admit I haven't. But, then again, I've never met a Maltese citizen.
