Hey guys,

Just curious how likely it is to land a university job with just a Bachelor's (Applied Linguistics) and a TESOL certificate. And if so, where are good spots to look?

Also, where the heck do I find uni job postings? Every time someone posts a link it doesn't work, and Dave seems to not want to post them.

Thanks! Very Happy

*Just* a Bachelor's (Applied Linguistics) and a TESOL certificate.? I'd wager with such credentials you're already more qualified than the majority of university teachers here.
Do a search for sites to check. It's been discussed a lot in the past few weeks. Your timing kind of blows however. Too late for the late Feb hirings and too early for the Sept semester - you'll need to wait 2~3 months to start applying for those....doubt you'll have too many issues though, just be prepared to sift through the crap. Good luck.

Other people were saying the uni hiring period is March. Your thoughts...?

Starts in March, but Unis don't need to find the new teachers till May or even June.

In a way it makes sense for Unis to take their time, unless a really good candidate comes along.

I expect finding a job earlier is easier with Unis that take on large numbers of teachers.

Can I play? You seem to have a lot of insight/experience so I'd like to hear your thoughts:

- 30 years old
- ~10 years experience in the banking/mortgage industry
- 'Merican
- Is red hair considered a disability? Laughing
- Yes, plus 6'3" and I don't hurt to look at
- Bachelor + 100 hr TESOL holder

Pertinent: I have little classroom experience outside of doing some corporate trainings and volunteering for Junior Achievement in college (course requirement). My recollection of grammar rules is pretty non-existent, but I'm willing to improve and educate myself further.

You can get a job. However in some areas of China they will ask for two years of teaching experience.
