Freelance should be much higher than 15 euros an hour in this country considering a Freelancer can count on losing almost half to tax, pension and the health system.

is there no tax free allowance in germany like there is in the UK? for example the first �7000 or so is not taxed. Anything you earn after that is.

I got 1 position for 13 euros/lesson and another for 25 euros/lessons. The former is Berlitz, the latter is a private school.

This is obviously a small sample size but it's an interesting bimodal distribution. Are the high-earners getting more because they're more experienced or because they're teaching business English? Or what?

I think it's standard - at least here in Berlin - that schools increase their base-pay incrementally the longer you stay with them. For example 17 euros an hour for the first year, 18 the next, and so on.
