John Ackerman, UNAM law professor and political commentator, doesn�t have such an optimistic take on it. His argument is that a) Pe�a Nieto did this out of weakness, not strength. b) It isn�t analogous to the takedown of Hern�ndez Galicia in 1988, because the PRI was in a very different position then. c) It comes down to a desesperado ajuste de cuentas entre pol�ticos. |

Such is politics, here and everywhere. Would have been nice to see Ackerman discuss the fine line the PRD has walked with Gordillo, particularly in the run up to the education reform package, mainly in propping up internal corruption to keep a strong front to defend union interests a.k.a supporters. |
