|
|
Hey, I'm starting at an Eikaiwa in Hiroshima the beginning of may, so I won't get paid till april. How much money will I need? I have a tiny furnished apartment and I'll be walking to work each day. Thanks and I appreciate any advice. |

You have to know in advance whether you are expected to pay any security or key money fees for the apartment (usually not, but who knows your situation?). How much is rent itself?
Figure utilities will be 10,000 or so.
Are you getting reimbursed for commuting, or is the money/ticket given to you up front? Depending on how far you live from the office, this will vary.
Food. Again, what are your habits? Carnivore or herbivore? Figure on 30,000-40,000.
Hair care. What are you used to? Will a mere 1000-yen cheapo cut do, or do you want something a little better (3000) or even more involved (perm, styling, dyeing, maybe 20,000)?
Phone. What is your plan? Get a new phone or used one? Setup charge will be roughly 10,000, with a huge variety in options for monthly fees. Figure 5000-8000.
Then there will be the miscellaneous costs like snacks, dry cleaning, dining out, sightseeing, etc.
Go from there. |

No key money, 37000 a month. So with all that, maybe 150000 Yen or so? I mean just trying to get an idea. |

Just reread your post. Don't you have this backward? May comes after April.
Be absolutely sure when you expect to receive that first paycheck. It may take longer than you think for the first one.
And, along those lines, I wouldn't bring just barely enough to get by for one month. Double it for security. I would suggest more than 150,000. |

Ha ha yeah, those poor students. It would help if I knew how to read. Yeah, I'm arriving the end of April, starting May 7, so I assume my first paycheck will be in June, so I'll be on my own for about 6 weeks. But Yeah, thanks. I'll email my boss and try to figure out when the first pay check will be. |
