This may be a really dumb question, but are telephone plugs and jacks generally the same in Europe as they are in the US? In other words, is a standard corded phone that was purchased in the US and for use in the US going to work in Europe? Obviously, I know that electricity voltage and plugs are different (even among different European countries), but I didn't know about phones.

The US phones will work in Europe, you will need to buy a new cord in the country where you move. You can buy those in most any electronic shop or large discount store. The part that goes into the phone is the same but the part that plugs into the wall is different.

How odd! Especially since the plug on the cord (that is inserted into the telephone and wall) is the same on both ends in the US!

Thanks for your response.

It's the same everywhere else too! It's just that you've imported your telephone but haven't imported the wall to match.

Frankly, why bother brining the telphone in the first place? They're cheap enough. If yu're bringing a laptop you can get universal modem adapters at most airports, though I'm sure they'd be a lot cheaper at Radio Shack.
