I've searched but cannot find the answer to my specific questions:
I need to know if I'm qualified to teach at the university level. I have a master's (elementary education) TESOL certification, have taught high, middle, elementary ESOL for the last 13 years. I've never taught at the university level. I don't want to continue teaching elementary students because that's what I've done for a very long time here in the US. I'd like to teach at the university level in either Chile or Ecuador but really don't know if I am qualified. I would really appreciate any opinions/feedback from you experienced folks out there.

Your qualifications probably would get you a job in Ecuador, though you would be in a much stronger position if you had some adult teaching experience. Even if it was only part time or voluntary for a few months. A reference saying you had successfully taught adults would really help.

However, it's very rare for universities in Ecuador to offer, or even be able to, sponsor visas. Work is usually part time, term time only and unpaid during vacations. So you usually need a second job to get a visa and earn money during the down times.

Don't overlook Mexico. Your qualifications would suit you to a Mexican university just fine.
