I exceed the requirements when applying at HCT. However, the last few times I applied I was immediately dinged and got the usual email saying they were looking for someone who more closely matched the requirements.

Anyone else with a similar experience?

Just guessing... but... they may be looking for lesser qualifications in order to pay lower salaries.

or...

They may not like your previous employment. For instance, in the past they were known to avoid teachers coming from Saudi.

I've got an offer to join them about a month ago to join them right away which I declined since I will lose all my summer holiday and pay if I did.

I have been living in Saudi during the last 4 years and I'm over qualified as well including the fact that my background is more technical than most teachers - regarding education and experience

That sentence was painful to read. Do you write that way in all 7 languages?

So... you are saying that English is not your first language? Your sentence structure is a bit unusual... perhaps your first language is Germanic? Just curious... not meant as a criticism.

Was the offer for EFL or something content related?

Hard to compare two offers/non offers without knowing how the two of your CVs compare. Not to mention what position is in play. And then there is the detail that Gulf employers aren't terribly predictable.

English is my third language and to be honest with you I was typing very quickly without paying much attention - not an excuse but a fact since I cannot focus due to a recent medical treatment Im going under which makes me very giddy.

In answer to your question, yes it was for an EFL Position. Agree with you about the predictability of the employers, let alone certainty due to lack of standards.

I do have family in Germany and England Surprised

Ah... drugs... Laughing

Getting zinged for language is always a threat on an English teachers' board. We are incorrigible...

From what I have heard recently, HCT is setting its sights firmly on teaching staff who speak English as a second langusge - hence the low salaries and reduced benefits currently on offer.

The HCT 'system' (ahem!) is presently undergoing some 'realignment' due to the years of corruption and decay that Dr TK inflicted under his tenure. The whole place is best avoided by any sensible educator (if that's not a total oxymoron).

So... are you saying that Dr TK is gone? Your verb is past tense... inflicted...
