Here's a thought: As I am a Visual Arts teacher, would I not be immune to most of the serious problems (except student disipline- already imagining the paint flying) that you all as ESL/English teachers have pointed out at ENS?
Being Visual Art is generally not taken as seriously or afforded the respect as a career choice in the ME as in the USA or Europe, (although plans for the Louve and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi might change this perception) would I not be outside the realm of grade inflation, constant critiicism and complaint, pushy parents, unreasonable achievement demands, etc.. ? Could I not just be the crazy art teacher whom everybody loves???

I heard that the louvre and such has been mothballed for the moment... ridiculous waste of money IMHO, perhaps just another rumor.

But... as to your question, I think all that anyone could say is... maybe. If it is an offer that appeals financially and there is nothing better in the pipeline, you could give it a try.

Most of us can tolerate a year at even the worst of places... as long as that check clears every month. You pretty much know the risks, and only you can decide whether to try it.

Most contracts are for 2-3 years, but with proper notice (as specified in the contract - often 6 months or one semester), you can leave early. You just can't decide at the last moment that you want to leave next month. Cool Well... you can actually do that, but you won't get a paid ticket and may lose some salary. In worst case scenarios, one can just take a taxi to the airport for the next flight and leave without telling them. No one can stop you as long as you didn't rob a bank on the way or something.

Hi everyone! Two of my friends were recently offered teaching positions at ENS in Abu Dhabi. I thought I'd look into it for them and that's when I found all the negative comments about the school. However, they have been told that the school is now under new management and in a new campus. Does anyone have more recent info about this school?

Thanks!

If we don't have anyone come on with current experience with ENS, I would stand by my previous advice. Have low expectations and then one is rarely disappointed. Laughing

Only your friends can decide if they can take the risk for possible reward.
