"Salaam aleikum" should, accordiung to the Pious Ones, only be used between Muslims. Christian-Muslim greetings should be non-religious.

I have yet to have a "Pious One" (my preferred choice of taxi drivers, BTW) tell me to shut my yap and use a non-Muslim greeting.

Come to think of it, nobody has ever told me to say anything different. That line usually comes from non-Egyptians.

Crossing roads is nearly an Olympic sport in Cairo... with dedication from both the drivers and crossers. But the drivers really will try to not run over you... depending, of course, on the hand gestures. I got very good at it... (the crossing, not the hand gestures)

So true. During rush hour crossing the street turns into and extreme sport.

Amazing to read how things have I changed. I have not been to Cairo since 2007 and I felt safe each day!
