Could anyone tell me about the jobs situation in Brussels? My details: I have been teaching in Japan for the past year and am looking at going to Brussels next year, hopefully long term depending on the work. I have my CELTA and taught for 18 months in Sydney, but did not finish my uni, so no degree. I am Australian, but have an Irish passport.
Questions: What is the general jobs situation in Brussels? Pay - I have been told that teachers in some European countries only just earn enough to get by, is it the same for Brussels? Is an Irish passport enough to work legally? If anyone could help me out with this, it would be greatly appreciated. |

I was job hunting in Belgium in 2001, so my info could be out of date. Your Irish passport should suffice to get you legal jobs. Pay in Belgium generally is relatively low, but cost of living is also. It's probably true that you can't save much even in Brussels; I doubt that the level of pay will compare to Asia. But there are other benefits: particularly as Brussels is a travel hub, it's cheap and easy to holiday often in some fantastic destinations. |

lucky you having an Irish passport. An EU passport means you can work legally with no requirement for a visa in all EU nations. I'm sure you can get ok money in Brussels, but being a big city with quite a lot going on, there'll be plenty of things to tempt your hard earned euros away from your savings account. |
