Anyone know of any great expat communities in Mexico? It's totally open to any parts of Mexico. I didn't want to leave any areas out.
In the past I have never been in contact with any expats or expat communities. Between work and daily chores it has never been at the top of my list of things to do. And when I thought about it most of my friends are locals. But, that aside I do feel there is a place and purpose for communication with expat communities and I see the value in them. Thought it would be nice to get a kind of list going.
I'll separate the areas the more information thats added! |

You could start in the virtual realm to find out where the expat groups are and what they are up to. Facebook has at least a half dozen groups (all named Expats in Mexico, or variations of).
And of course, nothing beats internation for breadth and depth in finding expat communities.

In DF, there are groups that meet at embassies. There are church based groups. There are younger groups that base in and around Casa de los Amigos which is a hostel. Mextesol for English teachers. DF is huge so you'll find just about anything.
In places likes Ajijic outside Guadalajara, you'll find older expat retirees. I think you see much the same at the resort areas like Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, and Acapulco.
I hear that San Miguel de Allende draws a lot of foreign artists, so I'd assume you could find a nice community there.

Mérida is one I didn’t know of until I visited the city recently for the first time. A lot of Canadians, as well as expats from other English-speaking countries. There is even an active English library, which serves as a hub for the English-speaking expat community. |

Thanks everyone for your info. Some of the expat community I have heard of before in bits and pieces and some I have never heard of before. I will start checking things out that people have talked about here as time permits.
I have to say the http://www.internations.org/ got my attention for some reason. I'm going to be checking that out first. This will be very interesting. |
