This is kind of a mundane question, but what salary should I ask for at your average bilingual colegio that is willing to hire foreigners? I know there`s a lot of variation, but I don`t know--I make around 500 dollars a month at institutes. Every time I tell a colegio "I`m open" to a proposed salary, they either look at me in disbelief or tell me I have to give them a number. I don`t really know what the norm is.

Where is it? I worked for one in La Molina and got $800. IN Miraflores I was offered a coordinator position for $700, laughable.

Tell them $1000 or $1500 and see what they say, changes are they'll bargain with you anyways.

San Pedro, Magistar, a couple others that Im applying to. 1500 in Lima seems kind of high for someone who is unestablished and relatively unexperienced, but maybe thats my problem--I should act like Im the shit. Thanks for the reply, that gives me a point of reference.

I am getting a offer of around 1200 dollars a month with health insurance.

Is this enough to save anything.
I'm not looking to be rich but am hoping to save.

Would appreciate any feedback.

Dude

It should be enough depending on what you're going to pay for housing.

Are you speaking in soles or USD? Are you all talking about private institutes in Lima? How about in a smaller city with a population of 100,000-300,000 people? What should you expect for pay.
I have a TESOL certificate and a Bachelors degree, and some prior tutoring experience.

Also, for your examples, how many hours per week do you teach in order to make that monthly salary?

Thanks

Wow, please send me the details of this by PM. This is a lot better than anything I expected from Peru. Where in Peru is this offer from?

Also, what is your experience? Do you have a MA in ESL or something. The OP that mentioned $500 USD per month with zero benefits sounds more like the Peru I was expecting.

In bilingual schools you can get salaries equivalent to teaching in your home country, but there is a lot of competition. Some of the really prestigious schools require you to have a teaching license from your home country, but nothing else.

Bilingual schools? No, salaries aren't competitive as your home countries. International schools, yes, but bilingual schools pay around 1K usd, if that.
