Dear Traps,
"Yeah that's easy. You just say you're a bad Muslim, but you're trying. They love that.''
And then, at every prayer time, those loving, helpful Muslims will almost certainly drop by to help you become a good Muslim.
Regards,
John |

Oh. Why don't you live on a compound? |

Dear Trip,
First, there's prayer time at work.
Second, even on a compound (maybe especially on a compound) there are no secrets. Gossiping is rampant. If there are any Muslims in the compound, they will know that you're supposed to be going to prayer, but they won't (I suppose - unless you plan to REALLY play the part) be seeing you at the local mosque.
Once again, sooner or later, it's going to cause problems.
Pretending to be a Muslim really isn't worth it. In fact, it could cost you your job, maybe even land you in jail.
And what's the upside?
Regards,
John |

John, why are you wasting your time?
Trips said that he is a Muslim, and that is an issue between him and God, and we have to judge people on what they do, not what they say or think?
Anyway, forgiveness is open to anyone who stops lying and returns to the right path. |

Dear Wilsonthefarmer,
I bother because I don't want any teacher who's never been to Saudi to come on this board, read what's being said about pretending to be a Muslim, and think, "Hey, that's a good idea; I think I'll try it."
Regards,
John |

Don't come to the KSA and start messing around. Saudi's take their religion very seriously and in a very strict sense. Lots of luck if you tell them you're Muslim and are able to make it into Makkah and Madinah only for them to find out that you are not Muslim. Being Muslim when it comes to hiring for English teaching, I don't think counts for anything. There are teachers that come over here that are Muslims to be in a Muslim country and near Makkah and Madinah. I hate to say it but I think they sort those out and generally eventually get rid of them. A non-Arab convert might be looked upon that way. I just heard our company selected quite a few of them for the nice experience of being laid off. |
