I have been teaching in China for the past five years, and almost all of my experiences with the medical system here have been terrible.
I am thinking of visiting Taiwan for a week or two this Summer, and would like to take care of a few medical needs while I am there.

How are the dentists and hospitals in Taiwan ? Any recommendations ?
Anyone with experience in both China and Taiwan have any opinions to share ?

Thanks !

i lived in taiwan for several years. i lived in china for several years. the acessibility and affordability of health care were quite nice compared to stateside. china's hospitals were spartan. taiwan's were first world. yeah, painting with a broad brush here, but...staying away from booze and motorscooters'll greatly increase one's health worldwide.

Without Taiwanese health insurance, a visit to the dentist will still only set you back about NT$400. As for medical care, quality is on par with first rate and also rather cheap- get yourself a colonoscopy for about NT$6000 and schedule an appointment for the next day or so, not much waiting time!

Taiwan has excellent healthcare. It helps that their doctors are saints and are really the only thing keeping the socialized system running so well.

I broke my ankle on a scooter. Surgery, anesthesia, four days in the hospital? $160 USD out of pocket cost. For top tier, clean, and modern facilities and equipment.

The other thing that can be said for Taiwanese health care is that doctors almost all speak English very well! Even doctors of traditional Chinese medicine. Clinic/hospital staff other than doctors is another story of course...

My wife broke her thumb here while on a trip. ER visit, x-rays, meds, followup with an orthopedist: $98.20 USD. Facilities as good as any Western country.

From what I heard, it's really good. Even compared to the U.S.
