Hi there, I wonder if any ESL/EFL teacher who has worked in Sydney and/or Melbourne could help me?
I'm a dual British-Australian citizen, and a CELTA-qualified teacher who has no problem picking up regular casual work in London. Now I'm planning to return to Australia for the first time as an adult and I'm investigating the teaching market in Sydney and Melbourne.
I'm planning on going out there at the end of January 2014, as soon as the airfares start decreasing, and will need to find work as soon as possible for financial reasons.
Is this a good time to look for work in these cities? Do language schools in Australia have the same big peaks and troughs as in the UK thanks to the summer school market? Is relatively casual work - a few days or weeks here or there - relatively easy to find for an experienced teacher? If so, what would be the best schools to try first?
I'm looking into spending time in both Melbourne and Sydney before choosing one of them as my permanent base.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks! |
