Good heavens. Expecting someone inquiring about Austrian citizenship to read and write in German. What's the world coming to??!! These little countries, insisting on outsiders understanding their little languages....

Maybe they just don't speaker the English very well. Could be a job opportunity there...

GonnaBe, you do know that German is the official language of Austria? Could you possibly be thinking of Switzerland, which has four official languages, including German, French, and Italian? Not to state the obvious (well, re-state it) all correspondence with officialdom in ANY country will be conducted in that country's official language, no matter how nicely you request otherwise.
