If that's the big picture you are trying to paint, I agree with Sash that the message is overboard. It's not up to us to say to anyone 'don't work for this guy.' We can only really suggest that it might not be an ideal situation based on our knowledge or experience. |

Ron isn't unique in the Moscow EFL world (although he is amusing in an unintentional way). These characters emerge for a time and then vanish after they have got what they wanted or have been swallowed up by bigger fish.
I understand wanting to stop people from falling for such characters - that's part of what this site is for.
BTW, I notice the name change from ELC to Dialog - when these outfits start changing their names it usually means they are up to no good and are trying to cover their tracks.

Wonderful. We've gone from making assumptions about someone's criminality to giving advice to posters about a country we know nothing about.
It is probably better if you remain in your home country and do not come to Russia, if badly handled Skype interviews upset you so much. At least, that is the assumption that I'd make, judging from the tenor of some of these posts. Baseless? |

Everybody? I've worked with Russians for years. Not the case by any means, IME.
Police bribes? Visit the south of the US. Exceed the speed limit while driving. You will quickly find that bribes (of one type or another) are quite common.
Agree with Sasha that Russia's probably not for you, given that you feel it's so dangerous. However, the same stereotypes unfortunately apply to a very large number of different countries. |

| I'm not worried about myself in the slightest, old bean. Doing just fine here amid all the uncouthness and corrupt police. Yet I have not learnt to 'shut my mouth' just because of rude remarks posted online, and do not see the need to start now. You didn't like my assumptions about your suitability for living here? You weren't supposed to. But did you not see how closely those comments were modelled on your own? The only difference is that my guesses stand a chance of being borne out by reality. How can one travel so much yet not display any circumspection? And how long does it take to figure out how to get a job in Russia? Samara was about a year and a half ago. Perhaps devoting more energy to searching for more solid positions would be more productive than wasting time blackening some stranger's name. |
