Any net scheme or private school teachers have any advice on what to offer salary wise for a nanny in Hong Kong. I found an agency in was thinking of using their service. They offer live in nannies for 6500 HKD a month for a domestic helper nanny. Is this accurate?

My child will be 1 in too young to attend full time nursery. I am considering playgroups but I will still need a helper for this as well.

I haven't ever employed a dh ("domestic helper", as live-in maids are normally called here), so don't know all the nuts and bolts. For more informed advice, I'd look at www.hongkong.geoexpat.com - lots of people there who have experience in this area, and advice on choosing a good helper. The general consensus seems to be to get personal recommendations rather than using an agency.
This website gives the legal regulations: http://www.gov.hk/en/residents/employment/recruitment/foreigndomestichelper.htm

tabrege,

The current monthly rate for domestic helpers is 4,010. If you wish, you can always pay more. Some maids who have lived in HK for a few years can earn as much as 5k a month. Not much is it? But that's the way things are here.

I forgot to say, I'm a NET with two kids.

6,500 is high...they are probably skimming off the top somewhere.

Sounds like the rate for Chinese helpers. The most I've heard for a Filippina helper is 5K

Well I decided to actually wait until she is age 2 when I can admit her to nurseries in Hong Kong. However I still have a good idea for the budget for a part time nanny if needed. Thanks
