Hello,

I've recently obtained my Bach of Education (Primary). I'm an Australian citizen. I also have a TEFL certificate 100+ hours <--- not sure if that counts for anything.

I'm considering of going to Colombia to work but mainly because my degree took me 4 years to complete and I'm certainly in need of a holiday Smile
I have been to Colombia before and enjoyed myself. I have a good friend who lives in Bogota which is advantageous for me.

What work opportunities would be available for me?

My preference would be to teach primary in an international school but if not successful with that then teaching english is something I'd be interested in.

Any feedback on teaching opportunities and visas for Colombia would be greatly appreciated Smile

Getting upset because people had not answered your query less than 24 hours after you posted it will not inspire people to answer it after that. This is especially true for Latin America, where everything happens "manana."

This forum sees less activity than say, the Middle East ones.

Having said that, there are many international schools in Colombia with excellent pay and benefits, but you need to apply to those in your home country. There are usually job fairs associated with those schools that happen once a year. These are separate from TESOL related events.

As for other jobs, you can always search the other postings on this forum for other possibilities. There are many small language schools that will hire you without a legal visa or health insurance or other benefits, if your goal is to take jobs away from qualified English speaking Colombians who are willing to work.

There are also university jobs that advertise from time to time on Dave's or other employment sites. These will hire you and help get your work visa organized. Some of the better universities in Bogota are: Los Andes, Externado, Javeriana. Check out their websites and see who the contact person is, and what's on offer.

Just don't get angry if they don't respond to your initial inquiry in the first 24 hours! In any case, most universities will be closed for the holidays until the second week of January.

Good luck!
