Just wondering if anybody's had any dental work done in Vietnam. How does the cost and quality compare to other countries? At my dentist in Korea, a wisdom tooth extraction runs around $90 per tooth, resin fillings around $85, and amalgam fillings around $45. Just curious how this compares to Vietnam. Would the savings outweigh the potential sketchiness of Vietnamese dental work?

Had a bit of dental work done in both places.

Vietnamese prices are slightly cheaper at the modern high end clinics. Quality seems high.

Local standard dental work is scarily primitive but exceedingly cheap. They usually just extract teeth if they need complex work.

I think there is a middle tier but it would be hard to find without local help. A Viet Kieu friend lined me up with a good clinic near my home although he said the firm he works for pays for him to go to one of the fancy Q1 clinics. I had a broken tooth and needed a root canal and a crown. The woman who did the work spoke minimal but enough English. Her techniques were good and relatively painless and the color match and fit are good. I paid 2,700,000VND which I think is middle of the road pricing too. As that's about $125 for a lot more work than a filling, it looks a lot cheaper than Korea. The problem is that I never would have known where to go without help.

Check out a local friend's teeth. If they look good ask them, if not keep looking. Smile

A Vietnamese friend described her experience to me when she went to see about a toothache recently. No anaesthetic. One guy held her head while the dentist placed his foot against her face as he pulled out the tooth. Charming.
100,000 dong.

I had a great experience at a dental office on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, right next to the slum 18A. Good work, the dentist spoke English and the prices were very reasonable (more so when you factor Canadian dental prices)... highly recommended.

Came into Saigon a few a days ago and got some dental work done.

Clean and Polish + 1 filling = 550,000

Environment clean, tidy and professional. Dentist was able to explain the procedure in English.

Did it at a clinic at just round the corner from PNL. Prices were surprisingly similar to those in Phan Thiet.

Got a site my friends have used to find good dentists in Saigon.
These places look clean, take Visa and speak Eng
www.hcmcdental.com

I'm gonna get my teeth whitened before going back to Aus, 1/4 price here.
Hassle is some places don't speak English and the ones in the main area are too expensive.
I don't believe the story above, about the foot on the face and pliers!, maybe back in war-times that's how they pulled teeth Wink [/url]

I went to a dentist that my vietnamese friend recommended. I went for a cleaning, but he barely did anything. Just a weak waterpik and weaker polishing. Is this normal? Is he just afraid of messing up my teeth? It was 100k. One thing that I thought was weird was that he didn't wear eye protection. Maybe he was a hygenist.

My friends got their teeth whitened the other day for $75!
In Oz it's $400. said it was a bit sensitive after, but good results .
They've just opened a new clinic so they have an opening discount.
