Does anyone here know of any on site MA TESOL courses offered in the Tokyo area? I know it is possible to do an MA completely online, but I would like an MA that has some classroom time. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. |

Teachers College, Columbia
Temple University
I've heard more negative about the TUJ one than the TC one.
There are a couple offered by Japanese universities, but they won't do as much for you outside of Japan. |

Greetings,
You may want to try Shenandoah University (su.edu) located in Winchester, VA. They have one of the older on-going M.S. Ed. in TESOL. The degree is almost totally online except of an on-campus visit to present your capstone project at the end of the program. Compared to other programs it is pretty reasonable and the transcript does not differentiate between in-class on online e-learning. I did about a third of the program while I was in Japan and completed the rest elsewhere. My degree has never been questioned even with university jobs in the gulf or adjunct work in the United States. Both USC and the New School have distance learning programs, however, they are very expensive. In the end, the important thing is the degree and not where you received it as long as the institution is accredited. Shenandoah is accredited through Southern States. The same organization that accredits Georgetown and Duke.
Good luck. |
