Anyone know anything USEFUL about Immersion camps for adults?
I have a student who's wanting to do a couple of months in India and I'm looking for alternatives, considerations, etc.
I think he'd be better off going buying a ticket to the UK (can't believe I think that...), renting a place for a couple of months and taking language classes there.
Thoughts on either that idea, alternatives and India are welcome? |

India ? Why ? English is a high-prestige language there but is used by only a tiny minority. He will be exposed to some varieties of English that are non-Standard.
England ? Why ? To enrol in expensive language classes ?
use the new technology available to absorb English through radio, TV cinema and multimedia. No need to leave Poland !

Maybe La Linea, on the border with Gibraltar? It's warm, classes will be cheap, he can easily go and practice British English in Gibraltar any time he wants...and so on? |

Thanks! I'll track it on the web and try to come up with the analysis of the info for him. |

Update/Conclusion:
My student is heading for England to spend three weeks in June. When he decided to just go there and arrange his own short class at a regular, non-immersion program my only advice was he should get out of London for a more effective language experience but...he's determined that he'll just do his classes and then find a library to hang out at or some sightseeing tours to take. |

From what I've seen, there's pretty good summer work to be had in GB. |

Staying in Poland and watching TV would have been cheaper - and probably more effective ! |

My thought as well. Still, he'll get a vacation (if you consider going to school for4-5 hours a day to be fun) and he's sure this will bring him closer to fluency.
I am more hopeful for my two who are taking a cruise in late May on an American cruise ship. |

Hey,
Let me know if you're still looking. I actually conduct these courses [weekend long]. PM me with questions. |
