Hi all

Dubai life looks pretty nice from what I've researched, but I'm just wondering if it can get a little isolated for want of a better word? I like to travel round and I'm worried that being in one city all the time could start to drag at me, regardless of how well-appointed that city is.

I know it does have amazing air links for international travel, but outside Dubai is there much to explore in the wider UAE and beyond?

Dubai has an international airport and there are lots of places to see nearby if you have a car.

You didn't specify what you mean by traveling around and beyond, but sites like Lonely Planet, Virtual Tourist, and Trip Advisor are a good place to start in terms of what to do in the UAE. Neighboring Oman is also great for exploring. Ditto for Yemen where politically-stable areas like Socotra Island and Wadi Hadramawt shouldn't be overlooked. Of course, you should keep an eye on any travel advisories for Yemen before heading there. Jordan and Turkey aren't far away as well.

Anyway, those three travel sites offer lots of info.

Dubai is a hub, so it is a great place to jump off to Asia, Africa and the Middle East, of course. Camping in the desert is marvelous! Oman is a great place to visit. It is easy to get around to the other Emirates ... Abu Dhabi or Al Ain (a city within the Emirates of Abu Dhabi) and Fujeriah and the Liwa oasis. They all have a little different flavor.

Your biggest issue with travel in Dubai will be the SLOW rush hour commute. It can be a parking lot some mornings.

The UAE is not like Kuwait City in Kuwait which does not have much to offer beyond the city limits ... a few islands, but not much else up there in Kuwait.
