I know this has been discussed here and elsewhere on the board, but I wanted to get an updated opinion from those on this job board.
I am a Canadian with TEFL-cert and 5 yrs experience (Mexico, Costa Rica, China and Viet Nam) teaching at private language schools (ages 3 to adult) and at a university here in VN. As a Non-EU person, do I have any realistic hope of getting a job teaching in Spain?
Thanks. |

Only if Canada has some agreement with Spain that covers you for a working holiday visa, if you marry a local, or if you are willing to take the (fairly significant these days) risks of working illegally.
You say you are seeking 'updated' info, but the thing is that the institution of Schengen zone border controls in 2009 is the 'latest' change in the laws. This is the one that closed the old 'border run' option, whereby one could just leave the country, get a stamp, and re-enter, restarting the 90 day tourist visa. Now, you have to stay out of the whole Schengen zone for 90 days before re-entering.
Spain and other Western European countries have little to no incentive to change the law to allow non-EU English teachers because there are plenty of qualified UK teachers who want to live and work there, and in the case of Spain, the economy is so shaky that there is nothing approaching an overwhelming demand for foreign workers. |

Come to Russia instead. No Schengen/Euro zone to contend with. |
