Both my girlfriend and I will have a UK PGCE qualification next year, alongside experience both in our home country and in Japan.

If we were both to get on the NET programme at some point, would we both receive the special allowance even if we were to live together?

Married couples only get one allowance.

So your friend who happens to be a girl and share a flat with is not a problem. Get my meaning?

I'm not actually sure what the rule is if you 'declare' yourselves together, sorry.

If you and your girlfriend are on the scheme then you can both collect the special allowance even while living together without a problem. If you are married then it would be fraud and could face some serious consequences if discovered........if you don't want a problem, don't get married.....might avoid a lot of other problems while your at it Laughing

Digging the optimism about both of you getting on the NET at the same time...

....sadly, good luck with that.

2 people with exactly the same qualifications and experience applying at the same time?

If one day ends in 'ay' and the next day ends in 'y', then the EdB will change their requirements to fit accordingly.....

Hence, the 'sadly'....

Thanks for the vote of confidence Joshua, really helpful stuff!

I am well aware the odds are stacked against us getting in at the same time.

With our experience and qualifications there are other options in Hong Kong so NET would likely be a mid-term goal for us after we arrived. If it takes a couple of years / apps and building up experience then that's what it takes.

Don't worry about it too much. My partner and I have the EXACT same quals and experience, down to the almost-exact letters of reference (we met in college and have been working in the same schools/companies for 7+ years). We both got in on the same application cycle.

However: THIS

is the perfect mindset to have! As everyone says, nothing is guaranteed and local experience counts!

Very Happy
