Expat FTs at the China expat forums are talking about doing "sick-outs" since they can get fired for striking. Even my colleagues who make 18,000 rmb a month are still having two or three roomies to get by. Here are the arguments being made by veteran teachers in China. Would a sick-out work? I gave such a crappy contract I would try anything to get out of it so long as I don't get deported or blacklisted.

I am personality against collective bargaining as it usually includes concessions such as appearance, back ground checks, meetings and additional training... I reckon my question would be how is this gonna help those wh0o are paid from overseas by Universities that currently and knowingly break labor law taking advantage of lax enforcement.
Remember FT's are not teachers in a collective sense....

Every contract I've read deals with extended illness quite well. Forget sick-outs.

'Demand'?!?! You did say 'demand', right? 'No' is the only reasonable answer to a mid contract demand for a raise. That's anywhere, not only China. Suppose they demanded you work for less?
You post this ... stuff all over the web, to no avail. A month ago on another site you suggested any FT who doesn't immediately 'demand' a raise was a coward. You have lost your mind, and you're wasting your time.
Why do you repeatedly post this sort of crap? Do you hate FTs? Are you trying to get us all fired? Are you insane?
I should rent CFTUSTFU.com to counter your garbage, but it's just not worth the time.

Unless you are a contractor or politician in the US.
I do agree with you though. Unions are illegal in China, get over yourself. |

You could let them know you are not so happy with the salary. Don't implicate other teachers and do your job well. You could inquire about pay scales and raises for the next year. Let it be known that you want more is the main point.
Do not demand, it will only cause trouble. You already signed and have no justification for flaking. If you flake you have no justification for asking for more. |
