Hi,
Please could someone give me some information about the quality of air in Suzhou and Ningbo (around XJTLU and UNNC)? Does it affect your day to day living? Are these cities manageable with a child in terms of air pollution?

| Have you checked aqinc.org and compared it to where you are now? I found that it was about twice as bad as I am now so that gave me something to compare it with. |

sure, there are certain zones of slow,excruciating death. but there are
also spots where the air is clean and fresh. and everything in between.
you just happen to be looking at some real armpits.
check the map here: http://aqicn.org/nearest/
enlarge, reduce, scroll around.........if clean air is that important to you,
first locate the fresh air zones, then start looking for work. |

Try earning 25k plus somewhere with clean air.
Sure, I could go to the edges of Gansu and Qinghai and breathe lovely air.
But for the sensible money, the available options are grim.
I lived in eastern China from 2005-2008 and shocked how bad it is now. |

Anything less than 25k is not sensible?
Life's all about compromises. If you're not willing to be subject to pollution, perhaps China isn't for you.
I don't want to come across as harsh, but fear I have. What I mean to say is look at your life, what do you prioritise? Money? Family? Health? Free time? Then look for a job to work around those.
Work to live, not live to work! |

| I prioritise all those things (money, health, family, free time). That's why I am looking for a decent job in a clean city. Unfortunately, the clean city/health part of the equation seems to be the greatest challenge. |

you're in the english racket. in china. 10K is sensible money, 15K is pretty
good. 25K is awesome....but rare. takes a lotta time and energy and time
and commitment and time to reach that point. few last that long.
look at the big picture. in the real world (western economy-wise), 25K
renminbi is peanuts.....a measly four grand us a month.
on the another hand, in china, especially for a engrish teacher, that's big
money. the locations where you can make that will be limited.
you can't have your air and breathe it, too. |

If you're set on China, Guangdong may be your best destination. That has relatively cleaner air (trust me, I've been tracking it for a while) and a good economy. Perhaps HK may be worth it also, I know that CUHK are currently recruiting... |

4K for a teacher is normal where? A part time teacher at that. Unless you are moving out of the English field and into something you are an expert in I don't see any justification. Please, don't say business.
How much do public school teachers in you hometown make? Last one I talked to was a 2k for 40/w.

you really can't compare "teacher" salaries in china to "Teacher" salaries
in other countries. "teachers" in china aren't. simple as that. we'd be
comparing apples to air compressors.
here in our china, teachin' is a part-time job, with few qualifications (if any)
needed. it's rarely a career, and those who dabble for the most part do
it for a few years and then move on.
what's a Teacher make in the us? a real Teacher? doing a full-time job
after getting a real (well, related anyway) education and getting certified?

of course, those average salaries, ranging from $40-75K aren't part-time
beginners. those numbers apparently are the average for all teachers.
to get a true comparison, we'd need the salaries of part-time substitute
teachers or teacher aides.

how many teachers do i personably know in the usa? one. a teacher
from our school here in our hainan is working for a year in the usa
getting local wages. around $40K. |
