It goes without saying that this recent regulation is a misguided attempt to weed out some of the more loopy EFL teachers, of which there are many. Obviously studying Chaucer never helped anyone in the classroom, and it seems that only TATI are really strict about it and possibly a few others. Now that it's been 2 years, I'm wondering how they are getting by. Can they find enough EFL teachers with English/Education/Linguistics degrees??? Doesn't something have to give somewhere?

Most of the TATI hires placed in the MOM colleges these days are 'non-native speakers' who would be excluded from ESL positions in most countries-not saying they aren't capable teachers but their nationality would exclude them from being able to obtain a working visa say, for example in China, or more locally-Saudi Arabia.......an academic understanding of literature means zero in terms of working at the MOM colleges in Oman-the requirements for advanced degrees in English COULD be related to the fact that it's 'non-native speakers' who are the main recruits.....quite honestly, anyone with a 'choice' regarding where they work-country, city, teaching establishment, is going to have a tough time staying in one of the interior towns working at one of these MOM colleges....
