|
|
I had an interview for a summer position at a universities. They said they had a lot of positions to fill and a huge backlog of applications so to bear with them and they would be in touch in about 2 weeks. However, its exactly a month now. I'd say it would be safe to assume I wasn't successful! However, I find it strange that I didn't get an 'your application has not been successful on this occasion' email.
Is it the norm for UK institutions to not inform unsuccessful candidates either way? (I'm not from the UK) Perhaps I sucked so much in the interview that they decided to never contact me again! Would it be unreasonable to contact them and ask? I would like closure either way! Or maybe I should just forget about it? |

Most of the time they state in the ad that only successful candidates should expect to be contacted.
Why should they send out hundreds or thousands of rejection mails? |

I'm referring to ones who don't, even though they say they will respond. |

In a job market where there are so many zero-hours contracts paying near minimum wage, what do you expect ?
Get thee to Arabee, varlet ! |

Why not follow up with a phone call? Or apply again.
Last time I was at a Uni summer school one of the teachers had been rejected at interview. So he applied again and he was accepted on the basis of a phone interview. They can be less picky later on. |

Doesn't say much for that university does it?
And Scot, 'Arabee' is over-rated after awhile |

I tried Arabee, and I tried sleeping on park benches. I know which I preferred. |

I'm entering into my fifth year in Arabee and a British park bench is becoming increasingly alluring. Well at least in the summer months, maybe the beach in Tenerife for the winter would be better! |

not replying to your cv is normal--they get hundreds. but i've never been ignored after interview, most places will only interview 5 or 6 people for 1 position. that is abnormal, and a sign of bad organisation. you probably don't want to work there. |
