Okay, thanks for your infromation.
Donato: you mean my question is asinine, that I should have known better to ask? Or peoples' responses are asinine? |
The responses. I am certainly not discouraging you from coming to Mexico. It's great. But you will not be able to have anywhere near the lifestyle you describe in your post.
I even received a couple of private messages telling me "right on" that what was said earlier was misleading.
I think you can have a happy life here, but from details given it is impossible or nearly impossible to have the same level for work given. |

Well, since I am "crazy" and a "liar" you won't have to see me again. Not sure what anyone gains by their posts, but I did state that I live in a small town, either way, I don't come here to be called names, so have a nice life everyone. |

Could it be that things are different all over Mexico? I mean, Mexico is quite big - most places are compared to Taiwan. Although even here there's variation - in Taipei things take a turn for the more expensive. |

I think the hardest thing would be finding the hours you are looking for. What are your teaching qualifications?

You are looking at 20 to 30 hours of classes a week, possibly a job that wants you to put in 40 hours but with only 20 of that in the classroom. And it will take a couple of years to build up any padding as start up costs (visa, furniture--apartments are completely unfurnished, no fridge, no stove, no light fixtures, only plumbing fixtures.)

I think you could easily live on a double part time income. I work about 25-30 hours a week and live just fine, eating what I want, travelling, rent.
Rent in the city can be high if you get trapped into wanting to live in the "upper class" areas. I pay 2800 pesos for a decent 1bdr apartment in Mexico City.
Food is really cheap, yes, imported items may be more expensive, but if you eat local food and go out occasionally you should be fine. |
