Hi I am planning on moving to Mexico in September. I currently teach in China. As I am moving straight from here I am trying to work out now which documents I will need to get from home to be able to work in Mexico and which ones need to be Apostilled. I'm thinking the obvious ones are Birth Cert, college degree and transcripts. Is there anything else and do they all need Apostilles.

Also my TEFL cert was issued by the Chinese governemt, will this be accepted by Mexican schools? And should I also get this Apostilled?

Any other advice for job searching in Mexico?

In my experience you need an apostille on your college degree and your TEFL cert. You may or may not need your birth certificate, that's more of a job to job thing rather than an immigration thing.

Please check out the fairly recent changes to the immigration laws in Mexico, work visas must now be started from outside of the country.

Thanks for your reply. How will a TEFL cert taken in China be received?

Immigration won't look too deeply into it. An employer will though. The institute that issued it and the course length/content will factor in more than it coming from China.

It's one ran by the Chinese government, it's mandatory if you want to teach here. The content was quite odd and a lot of it China specific, especially the online part. The second part was actual classroom activities though. This is on top of two years experience now but I can't claim that the TEFL was on par with other ones.

I think an employer would be OK with a Chinese certificate, as long as you have experience and a degree. I can't speak for all employers but many not even ask for a TEFL.
