Hi,
I am looking for work in these places.
Has anyone worked in Tennessee? I read that getting certified is not difficult.
I kind of wonder what work would be like in Memphis. Would that be working at a tough inner city school? |

Memphis....are you a country boy? Lots of country boys around...personally I prefer teaching in the Northwest Territories....lots of job opportunities up there...in CANADA! |

I am not Canadian so I can't teach there.
Can't be picky with the way the American economy is. |

I don't know where you got your info on Canada, but BC Canada can't get rid of ESL teachers fast enough.
Coqitlam, Surrey, and Vancouver are in free fall. Check out the Footprints recruiting web site and see what they say about Canada. Footprints is trying to recruit those teachers specifically for international jobs. |

Is there any particular reason that you are choosing one of those places? Alternate certification routes can be very difficult. You might be better off trying to get a 1 year master's + certification before starting to teach in a public school - if you can swing it, rather than a Teach Memphis sort of thing. Very, very challenging environment to be teaching and trying to get a certification simultaneously. Doubly hard in an urban environment. |

I have a MA.
I need to get certified. I keep getting rejected so how can I be picky?
For Nevada I would need to be certified first. I think I need to take a couple tests.
I am in Japan so I would rather live near the west coast.
Moving back to the US will be tough so Memphis would not be my first choice. |

If that's the case, I would carefully research whatever program you sign up for. As someone who tried to do the same thing in Louisiana after time in Japan, I would not recommend it. I am now public school certified in NY after doing the traditional route. You'd be better off finding a nice private school to ease the transition. |

Private would be fine but they do not search out teachers. The public schools are more aggressive with hiring.
I read bad stuff about Memphis, with cops in certain schools. I do not want to deal with violence, or with administrators who just scapegoat teachers. |

Look for a job teacihing English to Mexicans on the Arizona Border in Nogales...many EFL jobs opening up there. Also try El Paso in Texas. Good luck! |

Texas would be fine but I am not certified nor do I know Spanish.
I thought they push bilingual education, as do Oklahoma and New Mexico.
With Arizona, I have to take one test, then I can apply for certification. I am considered highly qualified there.
These tests can be done on the computer, even abroad.
Pearson Vue is a bit annoying. I need an access code but it did not work.
I wanted to buy the test book before taking the test.
Don`t really know how these NES tests are like. I have to take the English one for literature and writing. |
