Pride? Rolling Eyes

You asked for information about the situation on Iraqi-Kurdistan in another post and when I told you it was safe here, you refused to believe it. Instead of constructing an argument using supportive information, you instead related endless anecdotes (some of dubious authenticity) in an effort, I can only presume, to create some kind of 'halo effect'. If you knew everything already, why did you even pose the question?

And then when I implored you to do your research, you were deliberately evasive because you quite obviously found no research to support whatever gut-feeling led you to your misconclusions. Instead of admitting you were wrong, you dodged and weaved my imploration to provide facts to your point, and in the end, made yourself look really rather foolish.

You've indicated that you're a rather old gentleman, I would ask you to try to remember your university education and the value of empiricism they instilled in you. Perhaps next time you pose a question regarding a country, you can provide constructively to discussion rather than claiming to know better than everyone who lives writes back to you. *Please do not relate an anecdote as to how well educated you are, it's all getting rather silly.*

So I wouldn't call it a completely irrational fear, but if I were to let isolated incidents like this scare me off, then I would never have worked in Saudi.

Sure, but they're also returning to France, the UK and countries all over the world. And again, no foreigner has been killed by terrorism since the war began over ten years ago; that can't be said for most countries in Western Europe.

In a very selfish sense, I'm glad people remain irrational regarding Iraqi-Kurdistan. I'm paid very well and my experience in this region will impress prospective employers for many years to come.

I'm not disputing your conclusion at all. I'm very thrilled to be going there and I hope to get the opportunity to meet you one day. Your input has been very comforting because it confirms the conclusions of my research.

It seems that 2buckets is merely looking out for for someone's welfare. I see no need to doubt that person's " authenticity" and make disparaging remarks.
