Born In East LA starring Cheech Moran

Cheech is mistakenly deported to Mexico where he gets a job teaching Spanglish to Asian illegal immigrants so they can blend in to LA.

My favourite cartoon is the one where Foghorn Leghorn (rooster) is trying to teach the chickenhawk how to catch a live "chicken" (the farm dog) or he's trying to convince the skinny hen that the dog would make a fine husband!
"I say.... I say... I say there......Miss Prissy. Is any of this getting through into that head of yours under that pretty little bonnet?"

If...
Leon

Guest of Japan: Finding Forrester won my heart with an ultra-realistic shot of the kid protoge's book collection. A shot of many paperbacks, all well-thumbed except for a practically untouched copy of Finnegan's Wake!

I was told by a professor that one does not actually read "Finnegan's Wake"--one experiences it.

And it was an experience I avoided all through my BA and my MA in Literature.

Samuel Jackson teacher movie: 187 (he goes psycho on a bunch of inner city thugs-not one of his better movies).

Teacher movie example of how NOT to teach: The Paper Chase

Another almost teacher movie: Waterlands (Jeremy Irons trying to interest his bored history class tells them a real story)

Summer School: Better than you think, but it still stinks.

I also liked the bookshelf shot in Finding Forrester. You can't blame the kid for not putting a whole lot of effort into Finnegan's Wake. I expect to be avoiding that book for at least another decade.

Lucy Snow: Did you ever get around to reading it? The closest I got was trying to read a paragraph in a bookstore just after university. I felt real dumb.

Nope. And I avoided Thomas Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow" too. I concentrated on historical lit, because I found that Chaucer made a lot more sense to me than Joyce. Still does.

My husband who has read "Finngan's Wake," thinks I'm a barbarian.

Your husband's read Finnegan's Wake? Wow! Can I stare at him with a mixture of awe, horror, respect and bewilderment sometime?

Rob.
