How are housing costs in HK? From what I can tell so far from the ad's here, most jobs don't offer free housing. How much does that take out of one's salary.
How about taxes also? If my job says I'll get 20,000HKD/month for example, how much would I really take home?
Thanks! |

You'd be taking home 3 and a half thousand dollars a month if you were renting my flat - which isn't exactly palatial. It does have a good view though. You'll probably be able to find somewhere horrendous for 6 thousand odd. |

Accommodation costs can vary widely. 7 - 9K will get you one floor of a village house (about 700 sq ft) but it will be far out in the New Territories and you will have significant commuting time. For a similar amount you can probably rent a shoebox sized apartment in the city (Kowloon side). A happy compromise for some is flat sharing, in which case 7 - 9K will get you a fairly decent shared apartment. |
