Hello Expats & Teachers,

I am from the US and living in China working & living with my Filipina girlfriend. We're about to have a baby shortly. I'm debating whether to change industries into teaching. My question is, as a foreigner (US), can I get a state teaching certification in Philippines and use it in international schools abroad? We plan to marry and she will also return back to school to get a 2nd bachelor in education and also obtain her teaching license so we can both teach together abroad in international schools as I mentioned before. I was just thinking maybe classes/licensing might be cheaper going through PI instead of going back to states to get certified. I'm sure it's probably far fetched idea, but I'd appreciate any feedback.

There isn't a state certification in the Philippines. It is national.
I'm not sure about what the answer is to the specifics of your question but here is the link for LET exam information.

Thanks for the link, but didn't see anything regarding foreigners getting nationally teacher certified. Instead, I will plan to enroll into the TeacherReady online alternative teacher certification online through the state of Florida. With that said, I wonder if I can fulfill the teaching practicum requirement at one of the international schools or public schools? I guess the requirement is that the mentor that overseas your teaching practice must be state or nationally licensed teacher.
This would be great as I would have time to spend with my girlfriend/future wife and her family.

My Filipina wife and I couldn't figure out from the web site what the requirements were for foreigners.

I am uncertain whether there is an authorized body issuing license for foreign teachers. All I know is that, whatever profession you have, you should get a work permit from the Bureau of Immigration. There is only the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC), the entity issuing license for Filipino educators

It is not possible for you to get licensed as a teacherin the Philippines because you are a foreigner....not a Filipino national.....there are thousands of unemployed Filipinos who need work and they go overseas as Pinoys to earn a living.

Yes, it seems that the Philz is extremely difficult to land a job, as EFL Educator has mentioned above. Even if you could both manage to get a job teaching in the Philz, the combined value of both you and your wife's salaries would probably be less than a decent gig elsewhere in Asia. Time to pump out some kiddies in China or Korea and be a single income familia, I guess.
