Hi

I was wondering what my job options would be like as
the spouse of a Malaysian citizen with permission to work.
I have a TESOL cert and 4years teaching experience in Thailand, Turkey and Senegal.

Just to add that i am a British citizen

afraid not.. otherwise i wouldn't be asking about job options.

I know how hard it is to find work without a degree..
I'm just hoping that my chances might be better as i wouldn't need to submit documents to get an employment pass

That's what i'm hoping for

At present i'm working under contract with UNESCO through a third party
in Dakar, teaching english to the french staff there.

This should provide a good padding to my CV.
Plus the 2 years in Thailand and 1 year in Turkey.

I sent you a PM about visa stuff, but there's no reason in your case why you can't at least supplement your income with private work. I put a couple of adverts in The Star newspaper and ended up privately teaching a class of postgraduates at Universiti Malaya as a result.

Also, as you probably know, Chinese Malaysian parents get a bit obsessed with their kids' education. I found these kids quite hard to teach as their English was at least as good as mine at that age. Saying that, exam classes such as Cambridge FCE up to IELTS are very much in demand with these kids (their parents). It's quite unsettling to do a one-to-one with a twelve year old who not only wants to be a lawyer but knows exactly what area of law he'll go in to and already has his career mapped out until age 55. You can imagine what the parents are like, but they'll pay well if you can handle it.

As for employers, if you're in KL, there's IH and ELS, for example, and even the BC take on part-time staff. I have to say, none of these will pay well, which is why private students as additional income might make it worthwhile.
