I am beginning to suspect that Lev Bronstein had the right answers.

I fear the thin air of Ultima Thule has affected Scot47's judgement! Perhaps a spell in a re-education centre is required. Over to you, comrade Sasha. Very Happy

Maybe the Great October Socialist Revolution was a mistake !

Kerensky could have sorted out the problems of Mother Russia ?

Dear scot47,

Alas, Kerensky lacked the required ruthlessness. Wimps don't win power struggles.

Regards,
John

Dear respected colleagues

Please have a small case, packed with a few husks of bread and a change of underwear, ready by your door. Some comrades from the state organs will be around much later in the night to escort you to a centre where you will be encouraged to reflect on the manifold political errors of your way.

With Communist greetings

Sasha

Volunteer labour: just like Klaus Kinski's character in Doctor Zhivago. Wink

Thank you, Sasha. That's quite a worthwhile link you've provided. I've long admired Leo Tolstoy, his work, philosophy and the man himself. Here's a fellow that it doesn't matter he's been dead for 105 years. Everything he had to say is still valuable.

For convenience, I have cut and will paste the salient points of his advice from the article you have linked us to. I hope our friends will find it worthwhile to click your link and really listen to what Tolstoy has to tell us.

The secret to a happy life - courtesy of Tolstoy

1. Keep an open mind
2. Practise empathy
3. Make a difference
4. Master the art of simple living
5. Beware your contradictions
6. Become a craftsman
7. Expand your social circle

I can also recommend Tolstoy's five commandments, which for the sake of brevity I won't reproduce here. Sadly, I can find no link to a summarized version.

Oh! Great stuff!

I will keep these in mind.

Dear johnslat,

Indeed! I won't forget Number 9 either: listen to thyself and don't rely on others' lists.

Warm regards,
