I have heard this is a scam. I am telling a friend to be wary of it. He has a freind in Senegal who says she needs it to meet him in Japan. Sounds like a scam. I can't find the country's website to verify it. The US embassy says it is though.

Supposedly, citizens of west Africa, in this case Senegal, must show at the airport a certain amount of money before leaving that they can support themselves with when they visit certain countries.

The traveler has a visa, round trip ticket, health check, everything according to the country of desitnation requirement but their own country is supposedly saying they must have a certain amount of cash on them. like 1000 dollars which doesn't sound right.

The term beng used is BTA - Basic Travel Allowance. Possibly other terms but the purpose is the same.

You should think about changing the subject of this thread so it's clear that you're referring to W. Africa.
