Hi everyone,
I am an ESL teacher (2 years experience) in Taiwan currently and am looking to relocate to Turkey, specifically Istanbul.

I've done preliminary research and read a bunch of these threads but am still looking to hear from those with firsthand experience. ANY and all advice is helpful, thanks in advance!

Do you have any specific questions?

Why Istanbul?

I lived and worked in Istanbul for 13 years. If you want specific info, then pm me with your questions. Be sure to give your qualifications and gender.

Istanbul is cool, but the pay, overall, in Turkey is low. Not as low as, say, Thailand, but most jobs available there you'll see advertised don't pay as much as those in Taiwan. Also, know that housing can be pricey in Istanbul. I would insist that any job provide me with a flat. I would also insist the employer cover at least a one-way airfare. Make sure these items are covered in the contract, and be sure to get a copy of the contract (NOT the agree-to-hire BS letter that doesn't mean squat) before committing. Good luck.

Agreed. There are many pages on FB set up to bypass bias, pages to get the truth out. Pages that paid shills with an agenda can't touch.
