I am considering working in George Town (if I get offered the position), but I have never lived in lowland tropics and am concerned that being outside might be unpleasant all year round. Is it like Washington, D.C. or Rome in the summer, or better or worse or different? How does it compare to central South Korea? I know it's all subjective, but any feedback could be a real help. |

It is unbearably hot and humid at midday. I was there for four weeks at the end of last year, and it rained non-stop for five days, although this was unusual and most states in Malaysia did have once- in-a-decade floods at the time. But is the heat and humidity a big issue? Your body gets used to it, and you shower a lot. You do things a lot slower, which suits me just fine. |

Energy sapping and yet oddly beguiling. |
