Yes, do the CELTA. IH WRoclaw would be a sound move if you are hellbent on Poland.
January is a tough call. Why January and why Poland? |
Thanks for the advice.
I'm not necessarily 'hell bent' on Poland, it's just one of several countries I'm looking into at the minute.
January is mainly because I don't have time to get TEFL-qualified and go to another country and find a job this September, and I don't really want to wait another year until September 2016 to move away and Teach English (although I would consider it). |

Don't get into this rigmarole without TEFL certification or you are asking for trouble. Do the CELTA or Trinity. |

The best advice is exactly that - do the IH Wrocław CELTA, then see where it takes you. I know people that got quite good entry level jobs in Spain off the back of it, for instance. |

Help finding a job was included in the CELTA course I did in '06 in Colorado. I don't know if it's the same at IH, but it was a nice bonus.
I wish I'd done CELTA in Poland: good chance to save some money (cheaper course) while gaining experience teaching real Polish students.
You could also look for work when you weren't CELTA-ing. Many more opportunities appear when you apply at a school in person. |

granted, it was in 2007, but I came to Poland in January and found work right away. Maybe I got lucky.
The negative about arriving late is that by the time you start to get the hang of the place, the summer comes. Starting in the fall gives you enough time to prepare yourself a little better for when the work dries up. |
