Hi all,

I'm shortly coming to the end of a non-renewable EFL teaching contract at a French University. Without a French teaching qualification, I can go no further in the French system, and so I'm looking for a new country to go to, and Spain is my first choice.

However, I know nothing of how EFL teaching at universities works in Spain. What qualifications and experience do you generally need? When do they recruit? I'm sure that being in Spain, knocking on doors directly and making contacts is the best approach, but does sending email applications work too? Are EFL jobs at universities like gold dust? Are EFL jobs at univerisities usually part-time or full-time? Do universities pay better than language shcools? Is there anything else I should know?

Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to offer any information.
Aoife

Hi all

Just bumping the thread.

I'm a 43-y-o DELTA and PGCE qualified UK-citizen native speaker, been living in Madrid for two years. I'am at the BC right now but am interested in maybe teaching/lecturing in a Spanish uni. Does anyone know how if that's a realistic option and how/where I might look first?

Cheers.

Hi. As far as I am aware these sort of jobs do not exist in Spain. I spent 10 years in Madrid and in the end had to move away to find such a position. Good luck and I hope you prove me wrong.

I work with a couple of partner universities in Spain, and to my knowledge the positions (usually called the English department or academic skills or something) are most often filled by qualified Spanish natives.

Online TEFL cert courses are most definitely not the way to land a job at a Spanish university. Rolling Eyes

Dear Cactus Pimp,

The OP (that's me) has a BA (Hons) English, PGCE and DELTA. He won't be needing your unrequested 'services'.
