|
|
A fair number of teachers in Al Ain will be performing in
and supporting a variety of live music concerts
across the oasis this November.
The community-based Al Ain Music Festival starts on
8th November and will run throughout the month,
serving up something for a range of musical tastes.
Should be fun!

I've heard that two of the Al Ain Music Festival's five concerts
will be held in the UAE University's auditoriums -
or -if you prefer - auditoria.
Chopin and Oriental classical music is scheduled for Wednesday 13th November, and orchestral music on Friday, 29th November.

Earlier this week "The National" reported that the Abu Dhabi Classics series
will be returning this year after a 3 year absence.
Included in its series of impressive concerts, as promoted at:-
https://www.abudhabievents.ae/en/Pages/abu-dhabi-classics-season.aspx
is a performance of the movie music of John Williams performed by the
City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra at Al Jahil Fort in Al Ain.
Lovers of live music in Al Ain can also look forward to a bigger
Al Ain Music Festival this year, too. This music festival will run from 31st October to 21st November.

Can the music at these events actually be heard .. over the children's shrieking and squabbling, or over the adult's mobile phones ringing ...
Experience has taught me that one should only venture out into public spaces in the Gulf if one is feeling ready for the peace and quiet of a KG-come-chicken-souq ... |

I share your concern about mobile phones and other distractions, PC Parrot.
Stewards have an important role to perform, especially at unplugged concerts.

An ex-pearl diver should be able to hold a note for a long time, right?
But will we ever know for sure?
Maybe they got married to pearl divas?
How can we find out?
The grainofsand.tv team are pitching for our support...

The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra is performing a concert
in Al Jaheli Fort in Al Ain on 16th December...
"Especially for its concert tour in the United Arab Emirates, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra has designed a film music programme around the music of one of Hollywood’s greatest film composers of all time, John Williams, who wrote, among others, the score of blockbusters like Star Wars, Superman, E.T. and Harry Potter. Open to new audiences, this concert will embark its listeners to the extraordinary universe of Hollywood and its most popular science fiction and fantasy movies..."

In the meantime, the Al Ain Music Festival 2014 is up and running.
Details of its series of concerts are available in the current edition of "Oasis Living" magazine from pages 17 to 23 ...

For lovers of classical music in Al Ain this means that
we will have the opportunity to witness one of the world's greatest orchestras,
the Staatskapelle Dresden, perform in the iconic setting of
Al Jahel Fort on 18th February.
And, on 29th April, Milan's Orchestra Accademia Teatro Alla Scalla
will be performing pieces from its Italian Opera repertoire inside the same fort.

Milan's Orchestra Accademia Teatro alla Scala received a standing ovation in the Great Hall of the UAE University, Al Ain, last month.
Its selection of Italian arias was very well-received by a large audience. The change of venue from the fort to the Great Hall may have been because of concerns over the rise in temperatures.
The current Abu Dhabi Classics 2014/15 is coming to an end soon.
The recital by French pianist Bertrand Chamayou on 28th May will be the final event of this current world class series Al Ain.
The good news is that there is going to be another series - Abu Dhabi Classics 2015/16 - beginning this September.
Plans are also progressing for another Al Ain Music Festival this autumn, too.
Locally based performers will be joined by international acts.
They will be providing a more eclectic mix of live music events at every weekend throughout November.
So, there's plenty for music lovers in Al Ain to look forward to after the summer break!

The dates for the new Abu Dhabi Classics 2015/16 series
have just been released.
Al Ain fares well in the forthcoming programme.
Orchestras from India, England, Spain, the U.A.E. and China
will be performing in the Garden City during the course of this series.
Plus, other highly renowned musicians - including Jordi Savall and
Martha Argerich - will be appearing in this city on additional dates.
Savall will perform with Hesperion XXI in the open air within one of the oases.
Argerich performs with Kremerata Baltica.
And, in addition, a select group of prize-winning Russian classical musicians
will arrive in Al Ain's Municipality Theatre on 18th November as part of their separate mini-tour of the country,
which is supported by the U.A.E.'s Ministry of Culture, Youth & Community Development.
This November is packed with live events
for the music lovers of Al Ain!

Almost all of the performers on the opening "Halloween Rock Night" of the
Al Ain Music Festival 2015 are teachers.
Some of them teach English and others Music.
All of them, without exception, have decided to support a project set up by Sarah Brook,
who used to be a Public Relations officer in Dubai.
Sarah has now decided to forsake her post in Dubai for a mud hut in Malawi.
Why?!
Well, Sarah's story is in the "What's on" magazine...

The "Halloween Rock Night" is at the Sands Club on Friday, 30th October and admission is free.
