Has anyone heard of recent short-term gigs in any of the Gulf states? In previous years, friends of mine picked up shorter contracts (as little as 6 months) with companies affiliated with ADEC in Abu Dhabi. Some of those jobs were for qualified teachers, but others were suitable for MA/MEd TESOL. Thoughts?

I'd guess that's more the case for those already in the UAE on a spousal visa; it wouldn't be worth the cost to fill a temporary position with someone from outside the country.

As I mentioned, there were some companies doing this a couple years back. Nord Anglia was one of them. I suppose it works when you're the vendor whose numbers are decided by a greater authority, such as ADEC.
I was just curious is anyone else was still offering these contracts.

Work permit ? Could be problematic for short-term jobs.

Didn't seem to be a problem. I knew people working in them.

No, I have not heard of any recent short term gigs in the GCC. Several years back a friend did consultancy work with a major university in KSA, which was a start up situation. A friend did a short contract in Kazakhstan.

I have heard that more and more universities are hiring adjuncts, spouses that have a residency visa. I would imagine any short term consultancy would be for someone who has considerable experience in a specialized field: Assessment or Student Learning Center set up or such.
